Whitening: Whitening is a procedure that makes your teeth whiter and more attractive. With the tray method of whitening, you'll first have impressions made of your teeth. These will be used to make custom vinyl trays specifically for you.
A carbamide peroxide bleaching gel is placed in these trays, and they'll be worn daily for about 3 hours or overnight for 3 to 4 weeks. This method is recommended for badly stained teeth, and it's possible that it could take several months before you see significant improvement.
The whitening trays should be used continuously every few months to maintain your desired level of whiteness.
Veneers: Veneers
are coverings that are placed over the outside of a tooth. The procedure can be either direct or indirect.
The direct technique involves placing composite resin on the outside of the tooth with bonding, and the method is referred to as bonding.
The indirect technique involves 2 separate appointments. During the first, the teeth are prepared, impressions are taken, and the teeth are given a temporary covering while the impressions are sent to a laboratory for custom veneers to be created.
After several weeks, you'll come back for the second appointment where the temporary veneers are removed, and the custom veneers are bonded to the teeth. Laboratory-fabricated veneers are usually made of porcelain or pressed ceramic and are aesthetically appealing.
Veneers have an advantage over crowns because much less tooth material is removed, and the procedure is generally less uncomfortable. Veneers are recommended for patients that have large fillings or little tooth structure.
